Patricia A. Ryan, RIE Associate
Patricia A. Ryan has been a RIE Associate since 2000 and has been working in the field of Infant, Toddler Development and Care of over 15 years. Having experienced the day in and day out joys and challenges of working in full day group care, Patty understands what it’s like to be “on the floor” with infants and toddlers. She is an experienced adult educator, having taught infant, toddler development, RIE I Theory and Fundamentals, Parent/Infant classes and workshops and seminars around the United States and in the UK. She has also worked as a consultant with programs in Oregon and California, including Early Head Start centers.
Patty learned about Magda Gerber in an Infant, Toddler Development class and was immediately drawn to the natural, common sense approach that Magda taught. She studied directly with Magda Gerber, completed her RIE studies in 2000, and continues to work with her colleagues at Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE) to bring this uniquely respectful model to parents and professionals around the country, specifically to those in the Northern California and Pacific Northwest regions of the US. Her continued professional studies at the Pikler Institute in Budapest, Hungary and at Pacific Oaks, where she is a graduate student in Human Development, has only deepened her understanding of and respect for the basic competence of every child, right from birth.
